WALT: Sort objects into categories for display

In Maths we are learning to sort objects into categories for display. One way we have learned to display our sorted objects is in a pictograph. We did one for our eye colour:

We also did one for our favourite pets:

And we did a pictograph of the number of people in our family. We could answer questions about our graphs after we finished them.

Which pictograph do you like best?

WALT: Write our Fast Words

One of our independent activities during reading time is to practice writing our fast words. This helps us both in our reading and writing. Check out Clara’s amazing progress. Well done Clara you deserve a big pat on the back!

Singing with Tohora

On Fridays we are lucky to have singing with Tohora in Room 4. We love singing and showing our Kotahitanga to Tohora who are newer to school than we are. Our favourite songs to sing include Galloop, I’m a little teapot, Toe Knee Chestnut and The Big Pig Song. Here is the Big Pig Song:

Kotahitanga

Our value this term is Kotahitanga. This means unity and togetherness. We use our Kotahitanga all the time in the Busy Bees by sharing, by helping people who are hurt and by asking others to join our games if they don’t have anyone to play with. Vanessa has also noticed we are quick to give others compliments on the effort they have put into their hard work.

Here are some pictures we did of us showing Kotahitanga:

We have also been learning how to take a good photo using an iPad. Aren't we doing well? We took all these photos ourselves.

Swimming

This week we had our first swimming days. It was lovely to get into the pool when it was so hot! We are learning to be confident in and around the water. We have been working on getting into the pool, building our confidence in moving around the water, putting our head under, blowing bubbles and floating.

Some of us have even been swimming around the pool using strokes we know from our swimming lessons. Others of us felt a little bit scared getting into the school pool for the first time but we were all very brave. Thank you very much to our parent helpers. We wouldn’t be able to enjoy swimming without your help.

Number Formation

One of our rotations for maths is to learning to form our numbers correctly. This means looking very carefully at the numbers of the hundreds board and copying them onto our whiteboards. Vanessa is very proud of our effort. In only three weeks we have already made a great improvement. How do you think we are doing?

Matty came up with the idea to flip the numbers on the hundreds board once everyone had done them. This made is easier to see where we were up to. Fantastic thinking Matty!

Buddy Time

We are so happy to have Adventure 9 as our buddies this year! They came to share a book with us and their teacher, Kerri, spoke about the different ways we can read a book. So after our buddies read the words to us, we could read the pictures to them. We worked very well to learn together which showed our value of Kotahitanga – unity and togetherness.
Thank you Adventure 9 and Kerri. We are so lucky to have you!
