We did the
Mexican Hat Dance as part of our inquiry. We made our own sombreros using a
paper cup and hat. After we decorated our hats, Vanessa and Nicole showed us
how to do the Mexican Hat Dance. We had so much fun! We got quite puffed and
had lots of giggles. Keep an eye out for our performance of the Mexican Hat
dance at our assembly in a couple of weeks.

WAL: Our bonds to 10
Our Whetu
maths group have been working hard on learning their number bonds to 10.
We
made a rainbow with all the ways we can make 10. Our rainbow works from either
end, for example 0+10 = 10 and 10+0 = 10.
They then practiced
by playing matching up our number bond eggs. They were so much fun to match together! They could check using multi-link cubes or our rainbow.
Awesome work Whetu! You really are stars! I liked how hard you worked to match all the eggs.

NED!
Today we saw
the Ned show starring Gary and Ned! They entertained us and taught us some VERY
important messages.
After the show, we put on our yellow hats to think of the
good/positive messages from the show that we need to remember:
- I liked
how put the tissue in his mouth and it came out colourful. When you try hard at
something and you make a mistake, you can always work hard to fix it up (Jacob)
- I liked
when the balloon popped because it was funny and it showed that mistakes can
happen all the time and it’s not big deal (Bryah)
- We learned
to:
Never give up
Encourage others
Do your best! (Benjamin)
We liked the
Red and white string. The white string was the teacher and the red string was
the kids. The white string had a knot which represented knowledge. Gary made it
so the red and white string tangled together and the knot moved from the white
string (teacher) to the child/student (Keira)

RSS Games
We
had a fantastic day representing Atta’s country of Pakistan for the RSS Games.
Here
we are with our Pakistani flag headbands:
We were put into mixed teams with others in the papatuanuku based on our ethnicity and competed for medals by relating to others, having fun and mana motuhake.
All of us participated in gymnastics, gumboot throwing, weightlifting, boxing,
soccer, fencing, bowls, running races and stick games.
Congratulations to Australia (room 8) for winning gold, the Philippines (room 10) for winning silver and Japan (room 7) for winning bronze.
Here are some photos of us in action:
